Community Engagement and Learning at an Academic Medical Center

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, health disparities plaguing our communities are highlighted more than ever. Community-based learning (CBL) and community-based participatory research (CBPR) provide a highly relevant framework in addressing problems, especially those related to Social Determinants Health (AHRQ, 2020). Throughout team at Community Division (CHD) within Family Medicine Department Georgetown University School (GUSOM) maintained deepened relationships with community partners through engagement activities, which not only actively addressed needs but also acted as an educational tool for growing number interdisciplinary students. This paper explores effectiveness CBL CBPR framework, even when presented challenges pandemic. It further underscores how students have become intimately involved during serves encouraging model establishing student-based community.
